Rehabilitation Goals
Short and long term goals are set for an athlete to acheive during the rehabilitation process. Short-term goals provide immediate, achievable targets for the athlete that should be specified daily. Long-term goals are met by successfully achieving each short-term goal, which will ultimately lead to the return of the athlete back into the game.
Short-Term Goals
Post-Surgical:

Pain-free range of motion

Regain structural integrity within the first week

Full weight-bearing at two weeks

Increase ankle plantarflexion to 60 degrees to allow normal gait

Increase ankle dorsiflexion to 20 degrees to allow normal gait
Long-Term Goals
Post-Surgical:

Increase strength to at least 80% of pre-injury state
-
Return to full contact play within ten weeks

Have images taken six months post-surgical to ensure proper bone union
